UbiBot WS4 - 4G temperature logger with GPS for refrigerated transport

Temperature and humidity in the vehicle's cold compartment, the route on a map and an SMS alert when the cooling unit fails

The WS4 is a small logger with a magnet, a battery and 4G LTE. The P4G1RS version has a GPS receiver, and the versions with a probe port also measure a second compartment or the inside of the load.

A temperature logger that sends its own data

A classic logger in a refrigerated vehicle records the temperature, but you see the result only after unloading. The WS4 sends readings during the trip over 4G to the UbiBot cloud, so the dispatcher sees them in the app and in the browser on the UbiBot platform. When the temperature leaves the range, the driver and the office get an alert at once, not after the fact. It measures temperature, humidity and light, and the 1RS versions also vibration (±4 g).

The WiFi version has no 4G modem, and the 4G versions have no WiFi. The manufacturer's catalogue also lists WiFi versions with a probe port and versions with a built-in CO₂ sensor. If you ask about them, we suggest an equivalent that is in stock.

Flight mode

Flight mode switches off WiFi and 4G, while the WS4 keeps measuring and storing readings. This lets it travel with the load in an aircraft hold. When flight mode is off again, the data goes to the cloud; the memory holds 300,000 readings.

GPS route

The WS4-P4G1RS has a GNSS receiver. The map on the platform shows where the vehicle is and which way it went, so in a complaint you can see where and when the temperature left the range.

More frequent readings during an alarm

When a threshold is crossed, the WS4 measures and sends data more often by itself. The report then shows exactly how long the excursion lasted and how high the temperature went.

External probes

The WS4-A4G1RS and WS4-P4G1RS have a probe port (mini-jack). You can connect, among others:

A 1-to-2 splitter connects two probes to one port, and a 5 m extension cable gives a longer cable run. If you use several probes of the same type, we configure them before shipping (paid service). All probes are on the Accessories page.

Display

The 57 × 23 mm LCD shows temperature, humidity, light, network status and alarms. A button switches between °C and °F and between probe readings. The driver can check conditions at unloading without a phone.

Memory without coverage

In a tunnel, in the mountains or at a border, the WS4 stores readings in its memory (300,000) and sends them when coverage returns, so there are no gaps in the history.

Reports

You download a report for any period as PDF or CSV (Excel), for example in CSV or in PDF. The GPS version adds the route. Reports sent automatically by email are in the paid plans of the platform.

The free cloud holds data from one to 2-3 years, depending on the number of sensors and the reading interval. You can export data and delete it by date range, so the free storage lasts indefinitely.

The manufacturer does not state a battery life. It depends on the reading interval and coverage; on a long trip it is safest to power the WS4 over USB-C from the vehicle.

Alerts

You set separate thresholds for each sensor and each probe. The platform sends an alert:

You also get an alert when the connection is lost and restored. App and email alerts are free; SMS, voice calls and WhatsApp use credits according to the UbiBot platform pricing.

A fleet of loggers

You see every logger in your fleet in one account, grouped by vehicle or by customer. You can also pull the data over the REST API into your TMS or WMS. Sub-accounts for customers and automatic reports are in the paid plans of the platform.

Where the WS4 is used

Applications of the UbiBot WS4 in transport and the cold chain

Medicine and vaccine deliveries

A +2 to +8 °C refrigerated van, an alert when the cooling unit fails and a PDF report with the route for the recipient. For the fridge in the pharmacy itself, a WS1 Pro with a probe works better.

Food in refrigerated vehicles

Meat, dairy, fruit and vegetables in trailers and vans, an SMS alert to the driver and proof of the temperature in a complaint. For frozen goods below -20 °C, measure with a PT100 probe and keep the WS4 outside the chamber.

Cold rooms and warehouses without WiFi

The 4G versions work where the building has no network. Where WiFi is available, a GS1-A1RS or a WS1 Pro is usually enough.

Campervans and special vehicles

Temperature in the living space and an alert for frost or overheating, mounted with a magnet or screws.

International and air transport

GPS and the route in the report, flight mode and the UbiBot Global SIM for routes through several countries. On routes with weak coverage, where the missing B20 band matters, the GS1-PL4G1RS can be more reliable.

Certificates

UbiBot devices carry the CE mark and meet RoHS requirements. The manufacturer also lists market approvals such as FCC (USA), IC (Canada) and RCM (Australia).

Questions about the UbiBot WS4

Is there a subscription for the platform? No. The free plan covers the cloud, the app, reports, and app and email alerts. Only SMS, voice calls and WhatsApp are paid.

How long does the battery last? The manufacturer does not state a battery life, because it depends on the reading interval and coverage. On the road, power the WS4 from the vehicle over USB-C and keep the battery as a backup.

Is the WS4 suitable for freezers? The logger itself works from -20 °C. For lower temperatures, measure with a PT100 probe on a version with a probe port.

Does the WS4 have an EN 12830 certificate? The manufacturer has no current EN 12830 certificate for UbiBot loggers. On request we add an accredited calibration certificate (PCA).
