What the GS1 measures and where it works

The UbiBot GS1 is a logger for places tougher than an office. It has an IP65 housing (except the Ethernet version), a 4-inch backlit LCD screen and a battery that keeps it measuring during a power cut. It measures temperature, humidity and light. External probes add readings from other places and of other quantities: a second point in a cold room, soil in a greenhouse, gas in a hall, rainfall in a field. Readings go to the UbiBot cloud, and when a threshold is crossed you are alerted by SMS, email, in the app, on WhatsApp or by voice call.

Which GS1 to choose

Model Connection GPS Housing Battery life Best for
GS1-A1RS WiFi no IP65 4-6 months warehouses, cold rooms, greenhouses with WiFi
GS1-AETH1RS Ethernet RJ45 and WiFi; PoE via splitter no no IP rating, indoor use 3-5 days server rooms, halls, company networks without WiFi for IoT
GS1-AL4G1RS LTE and WiFi no IP65 3-6 weeks over LTE sites without a network, fields, remote buildings
GS1-PL4G1RS LTE, WiFi and GPS yes IP65 1-2 weeks with GPS refrigerated transport, containers

The cheaper GS1-A and GS1-A4G without a probe port are available to order. For immediate delivery we suggest the UbiBot WS1 Pro instead.

External probes: up to six on one GS1

Probes connect with a mini-jack plug, and with a 1-to-2 or 1-to-6 splitter you connect several at once:

Some probes, including the gas and smoke sensors, the rain gauge and the leak sensor, need the GS1 to run on its 12 V adapter. The TH30S-B and CO2 probes do not work together on one logger. When you need several probes of the same type, we configure them before shipping and give each its own address, so the set works as soon as you plug it in. See all probes and accessories.

DS18B20 probe: current GS1 units take a DS18B20 through the UB-TRS-N1 converter. We also have a few older units with (1DS) in the model code that take a DS18B20 directly. They are no longer produced and do not support the SEC-N1 and SPH-N1 soil probes.

GS1-PL4G1RS: GPS for transport

The PL4G1RS version has a GNSS receiver (GPS, GLONASS, QZSS) and an LTE modem. Besides temperature and humidity in the vehicle's cold compartment it records the route, so the report shows where and when the temperature left the range. It usually works with a DS18B20 or TH30S-B probe in the compartment and is powered from the vehicle. On the battery alone with GPS on, it lasts 1-2 weeks.

Battery and power

The 2500 mAh lithium battery charges via USB-C 5 V or from a 5-12 V DC adapter; the current GS1 ships with a 12 V adapter in the box. Battery life on the battery alone, according to the manufacturer:

For continuous use, power the GS1 from the mains and keep the battery as backup; the platform alerts you when mains power is lost. In fields and greenhouses without a socket, a 10 W solar panel does the job. The Ethernet version can be powered over the LAN with the UB-PS-A1 PoE splitter.

WiFi, Ethernet or LTE, cloud and alerts

The LTE versions work with a data SIM from any operator in your country, which is usually the cheapest option; you only enter the operator's APN. The UbiBot Global SIM included in the box is optional and useful when the logger works in several countries. The SIM only carries data: SMS and other alerts are sent by the UbiBot platform.

You see current readings, charts and history in the phone app and in the browser on the UbiBot platform, and download a report for any period as PDF or CSV (Excel). The free cloud holds one to two or three years of data from one device, depending on the number of sensors and the reading interval; you can export and delete data by date range, so it lasts indefinitely. When the connection drops, the GS1 stores up to 300,000 readings and sends them when the network is back.

You set separate thresholds for every sensor and probe. Alerts go out in the app, by email, SMS, WhatsApp or voice call, also when the connection or mains power is lost. App and email alerts are free; SMS, calls and WhatsApp are paid in credits under the UbiBot price list.

Outdoors, the manufacturer recommends extra protection from rain and sun; humidity constantly above 90 % damages the sensor. Full parameters are in the GS1 user guide.

Calibration and certificates

On request, we supply the GS1 with a calibration certificate from a PCA-accredited laboratory (Poland), with points matched to the use: +2 and +8 °C for a medicine fridge, or temperature and humidity points for rooms. Probes on a cable can be calibrated too. Calibration adds 5-6 business days to the order. The manufacturer does not currently hold an EN 12830 certificate.

The manufacturer lists the CE mark, RoHS compliance and FCC (USA), IC (Canada), TELEC (Japan) and RCM (Australia) approvals for the GS1 series, as well as an FDA registration.

Questions about the UbiBot GS1

Can the GS1 work outdoors? Yes, the A1RS, AL4G1RS and PL4G1RS versions have an IP65 housing. Mount it under a roof or in a shelter, as the manufacturer recommends protection from rain and sun. The Ethernet version is not waterproof.

How many probes can I connect, and can two be the same? Up to six, through a splitter. Several probes of the same type, for example three TH30S-B in three chambers, we configure before shipping: each gets its own address and works as soon as you plug it in.

Do I have to use the UbiBot Global SIM? No. The LTE versions work with a data SIM from any operator. Global SIM is useful when the logger works in several countries (see the UbiBot Global SIM plans).

Is there a subscription for the platform? No. The free plan covers the cloud, the app, reports, and app and email alerts. Only SMS, voice calls and WhatsApp are paid, in credits under the UbiBot price list.

Will the GS1 connect to a company network? Over WiFi, yes, if the network runs on 2.4 GHz with WPA/WPA2. It does not support 5 GHz-only networks or WPA2-Enterprise (RADIUS login); in that case choose the Ethernet or LTE version.
