What the GS2 measures

The UbiBot GS2 is a logger for liquids: the nutrient solution in hydroponics, the water in an aquarium, a tank in a wastewater plant or a sample in a laboratory. It measures pH and conductivity (EC) with electrodes on a cable, water temperature with a DS18B20 probe, and light with a sensor on the housing. Readings go to the UbiBot cloud, and when a value leaves the range the platform sends an alert by SMS, by email, in the app, via WhatsApp or by voice call.

Measurement and calibration

Immerse the electrode together with the temperature probe and wait 5 minutes. After that the GS2 measures and sends data by itself at the set interval.
Do not put the pH and EC electrodes in the same container. If they must work in one tank, keep them at least 0.5 m apart.
You calibrate with the knobs on the housing or in the UbiBot console. The manufacturer recommends calibrating in the console, because it gives better pH accuracy. Offline: pH in a 6.86 buffer, and EC in a standard solution close to the value you measure, both at about 25 °C.
When accuracy matters, calibrate pH before each measurement, and EC about once a month.
The pH electrode is usually replaced once a year, while the EC electrode lasts several years.
The pH electrode works in liquids from 5 to 60 °C.

Display

The 4-inch backlit LCD shows pH, EC, temperature and light, with battery, network and data upload in the status bar. You can keep the backlight on permanently, and voice messages can be switched off.

WiFi or 4G

The GS2 WiFi connects to a 2.4 GHz network.
The GS2 with SIM also has a cellular modem and a micro-SIM slot, so it works where there is no WiFi, for example in a greenhouse or at an outdoor tank.

A data SIM from a local operator works and usually costs less; in the setup you only enter the operator's APN. The free UbiBot Global SIM in the box is an option. You see the readings in the app and in the browser on the UbiBot platform.

(1) On battery, according to the manufacturer: 4-6 months over WiFi and 3-6 weeks over the cellular network, depending on the reading interval and coverage. The manufacturer notes that with external power the pH reading may fluctuate slightly. Where there is no socket, a 10 W solar panel works well.

Certificates

UbiBot devices carry the CE mark and meet RoHS requirements. The manufacturer also lists market approvals such as FCC (USA), IC (Canada) and RCM (Australia).

Before you buy

The GS2 measures liquids only. For soil pH and salinity, use the SPH-N1 and SEC-N1 probes (see Accessories) with a GS1 logger.
In very pure water (distilled, demineralised or after reverse osmosis) the pH reading is unstable and special electrodes are needed.
If you only need the liquid temperature, a WS1 with a DS18B20 probe costs less.
Electrodes need calibration and replacement from time to time, so add calibration solutions and a spare electrode.

Questions about the UbiBot GS2

Can I buy the GS2 without electrodes, or electrodes alone? Yes. The GS2 comes without electrodes, with only the DS18B20 temperature probe in the box, and in versions with pH and EC electrodes on a 3 m or 8 m cable. We match replacement electrodes to the cable length.

How often should I calibrate? pH before each measurement when accuracy matters, otherwise as needed. EC about once a month.

Is there a subscription for the platform? No. The free plan covers the cloud, the app, reports, and app and email alerts. Only SMS, voice calls and WhatsApp are paid.

How to buy the UbiBot GS2
